Fluxus, freedom, improvisation
workshop
led by:
Time:
The topic of the workshop is performance in the
widest sense, involving works by Ken Friedman, Earl
Brown, Cornelius Cardew, Roman Haubenstock-Ramati,
Anestis Logothetis and others, as well as on the
participants fantasy and imagination.
A catalogue of 500 possible fluxus actions as well as graphical scores by the Austrian composers Roman Haubenstock-Ramati and Anestis Logothetis will serve as a stimulus to develop an artistic collaboration between the participants. The aim is to develop a common performance of musical actions reflecting and questioning the concert situation, partly in an dadaist fashion, but also by highlighting the original aspect of music performance being a deep human ritual. The means of electronic music will be used to create a space for these actions and to establish sound and music out of the natural noises of performing, breathing, moving. At the end of the workshop the participants will perform at the closing concert (18 February) of the festival in Trafó. Everybody interested in creation of improvised music and art with or without experience in electronic music is invited to participate actively at the workshop. Applications with a short CV should be sent to Julianna Horváth (secretary of Making New Waves) by email: julia70@freemail.hu by 10 February 2007. The application fee is 10 EUR that is to be
payed through bank to the following bank account:
At some cases the Festival can ensure scholarships for the application fee. All applicants will be informed about the results and the scholarships through email by February 13. |
hardware
hacking

"If it sounds good and doesn’t smoke, don’t worry
if you don’t understand it" (N. Collins)
In our days every little kid seems to know how to hack the Pentagon, but few of us are brave enough to hack a simple electronic toy. Led by Nicolas Collins, (who worked with John Cage, David Tudor, and other pioneers of live electronic music, and is the author of Handmade Elecronic Music – The Art of Hardware Hacking) this workshop will be an introduction to the creative transformation of consumer electronic technology for alternative use. The course where no previous electronic experience is assumed, begins with listening: making contact mikes, experimenting with coils and tape heads, twitching speakers with batteries. The students will open up a range of battery-powered “consumer” technology (radios, electronic toys), observe the effect of direct hand contact on the circuit boards, experiment with the substitution of components, and listen to unheard signals running through the circuit. The emphasis will be on making personal performable handheld electronic instruments. At the end of the workshop there will be an informal public presentation by participants at the closing concert (18th February) of the festival in Trafó. Everybody with or without experience interested in handmade electronic music is invited to participate actively at the workshop. led by:
Zsuzsánna Hunyadi, Andrea Szigetvári, Szilárd Horváth Time:
The workshop has started in September as a
collaboration with the Szabolcsi Bence Music School
at Hunyadi Zsuzsánna's improvisation lessons. The
pupils have learnt to improvise with a software
(written by Andrea Szigetvári) enabling to controll
random processes. The role of the MIDI keyboard has
been redefined, the keys has been used to controll
the parameters (pitch, tempo, volume, etc.) of the
random processes. During Making New Waves a special
computer music atelier will be put together, where
the pupils can play their new instrument with
different controllers. They will create new pieces
and improvisations which will be performed during
the closing concert of the festival.
We accept passive participation at the workshop. There is no entrance fee. Applications should be sent to Julianna Horváth by email: julia70@freemail.hu by 15 February 2007. |
